asahi linux as a devops workstation

1750113213

i've recently installed asahi linux on my 2022 m2 macbook pro, specifically the fedora 42 kde remix. since i'm in the process of being dropped into a new work environment, i figured that this would be a perfect opportunity to test the waters, see how well i could chart a course through unknown territory. my vessel would be crafted out of proprietary silicon and sporting a translucent sail hand-woven out of marcan's tears. ship ahoy

the asahi command line installer made getting set up a breeze, no kde pun intended. partitioning is done on the command line, but the instructions are so crystal clear that you'd have to really, REALLY be trying to mess it up. once you've reached the plasma desktop, configuration efforts should feel familiar to the average linux user, i.e. the twink(tm)

day one. i awaken to a leftover 10-hour youtube video titled "shanties playing in the other room with generic rum-related noises in background" and hurriedly slip into my racy captain hook cosplay that allows me to better tap into the seaman psychosphere to inform myself of the woes currently plaguing the weak-mustached captains of lesser repute. it's a peaceful, sunny day. slightly too warm, but who's complaining. the waters are calm. my red-nosed second-in-command in ill-fitting garments hands me a message in a bottle. the trading company i intend to do business with informs me of a slightly less asynchronous way of communicating, to be used henceforth. humbug, i say. the sextant i don't remember placing on my wooden desk starts glowing. they use cisco webex

hook ~/Cargo % sudo dnf install Webex.rpm

the sound of my blow-up pirate hat replica deflating in a comically slow manner snaps me out of my daring seafarer fantasy while my eyes remain fixed on something far beyond the retina display in front of me. cisco doesn't offer an aarch64-based linux application for their little low-budget toy meeting app, so the only resort is to use the web app that completely lacks the feature most pertinent to my dealings, the messaging, which means i can essentially go fuck myself. this story ends the way all my stories do: with a saddening insight. i'm not a pirate, i'm just a slave to a wack architecture

until next time
