it has been done once again. since it's my life's mission to program shitty site generators (think sisyphos) and recent occurrences have left me somewhat unsatisfied with my previous solution, i have invested my entire saturday (it's been more than 8 hours since i started) and wrote another one from scratch. python is the language of choice this time for a variety of reasons such as:
- insane amount of easy-to-use packages
- clean ass syntax
- clean ass documentation
- some familiarity with the language
- it's just fun to write python and i didn't have enough time to learn ocaml
the primary motivator is jinja2, though. my recent experiments with web.py got me into templating, and jinja is just ridiculously easy to use
can honestly say that i'm pretty happy with the s3 setup. eliminates basically the worst of hosting your own blog (the hosting part). codebase here or here
fun fact of the day: did you know that netnewswire stores your rss feeds in a sqlite3 database for convenient restoring after a catastropic event wiping your entire blog?
good night
